  • Producer recommended to me on WineBerserkers for a Grenache producer with a light hand. The back label makes a big deal of how the vineyard has the same sandy soils as Rayas and is located right next door. Not sure if this makes a difference. Maybe it does.

But this is definitely different than other CdP that I've had in the past: much more restrained all around . In the glass, it looks like red Burgundy with a few years under its belt. Lightly perfumed red fruits, preserved cherries, a bit of Concord grape jelly on the nose. Some aromas of damp turned soil as well.

Light in the mouth, medium acidity, just a bit of fine dusty tannins. I don't think this tastes over the hill at all (despite what other comments say)- it's quite fruit forward in the mouth, albeit with a "cool" red fruit profile as opposed to the typical purple/black jammy fruits of so many CdPs. I think this tastes like red raspberries, cranberry sauce, ripe red cherries. Some spiced and woody elements are in the background, and then comes a bit of earthiness that I picked up on the nose.

The overall impression is one of refinement. I see why it was recommended, it's far from the typical CdP. I really enjoy it and at first I was surprised to read the so-so CellarTrackers reviews. Maybe it's because it is so different in style than most other wines from the S Rhone? Is its light body being interpreted as loss of weight due to too much age? I've never had this wine young, so it's tough to say. But I like it. I'll be on the lookout for more bottles from this producer.

  • Rhone Birthday 2022; 11/4/2022-11/6/2022: Unfortunately I think this saw some heat at some point. Brownish fruit and muddled profile. Tired for its age. Not correct.

  • First bottle opened was oxidized, despite the cork holding perfectly (no signs of seepage).
Second bottle was not flawed, but the wine is mature.
