For all the haters out there, I will be happy to take your bottles off your hands. This is a delightful pinot. Beautiful aromatics, body on the lighter but still mouth filling side. Probably at its peak.

No doubt that the structure has outlived the fruit here. Still, the nose delivers quite delicate aromatics; small red berries, champignons and autumn leaves, all nicely integrated. Something green here also, but not obtrusive and actually adding a bit of complexity. The palate, on the other hand, is all about the acid, with some redcurrants finishing. Drink up...

Loose on the nose with simple red fruit and toasty cereal aromas. A bit thin on entry, this shows plenty of dusty, grippy tannins and a bit of alcohol on the palate. Never particularly well knit, this turns downright course and meaty on the finish. By a process of elimination I thought this was the de Montille.

1995s Blind -- Torture: Served single-blind in a flight of four. Lots of cool red fruit and a ton of gingery spice, I think the spice comes from brett. This is quite good at first with fleshy yet airy sweet red fruit, but it gets dirtier with air, and the tannins get rougher, and as the fruit fades there's not enough concentration to stand up to the brett. I didn't get so much of the unpleasant char that others picked up, but it didn't make the wine any better for me. Clear after 20 minutes that this is the worst wine in the flight; time for it to walk the plank.

Second bottle. All acid. Maybe my last bottle will be like the first?
