  So CVD19 restrictions partly lifted, so immediately needed to open old Burgundy. As one does and should. Another fantastic bottle of Burgundy at age. 35yrs old, Volnay Premier cru from great maker Montille and singing. Color was a limpid red with brown edge which as we know doesn't mean much for old burgundy. Often old burgundy promises so much on the nose and does not deliver on the palate. Many good burgundies do the reverse, and the best do both. So this one didn't party too much on the nose, it was subtle, lots of funk and sous bois and a tad spicy. but it was the palate that set tongues wagging. Long, seamless, sweet pinot fruit with perfect balance of acid that lasted for some time in the mouth. it glided down like liquid gold. And that is was what great old burg is all about. At it peak, perhaps on the downslide a little but nonetheless stunning.
