Black as ink and not a hint of age to this wine, beautiful silky tannins, dark plum fruit and blackberries, excellent depth and smoothness, some chocolate, amazing length, rather low but well balanced acidity. This is a monumental Merlot with many years of life ahead. Great wine! - 94 points

Gualdo del Re wines in blind pairs (Palazzo di Doug e Jeanette): Dark, dense, ruby, youthful. Hugely complex nose and palate, entire spectrum from primary to tertiary: ripe fruit, oak, soy, minerals, earth, spices. Rich, smooth and chewy tannins (grape and oak), good acidity with some MLF buttery notes, full bodied and nicely balanced structurally, long and complex. Evolves beautifully in glass. Outstanding. Near-unanimous WOTN. Would easily rival the best of Italian Merlots, including Masseto.
