Deep black-red. Penetrating aromas of ripe black fruit, graphite and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, there is a touch of menthol and boldness on the entry. Clear cut lines with plenty of bold fruit flavours veering from freshly picked blackcurrant to cassis and lots of chocolate cream in between. The wine has plenty of depth and good concentration; black fruit and chocolate harmonise with sweet yet powdery tannins and a noted sweet spice—excellent persistence on the finish and well-integrated at ten years old. The menthol becomes more mint as the wine opens in the glass. There is some generosity on the back palate but beautifully balanced wine.

Wines of South Africa (Fix St. James, 111 Elizabeth Street, Sydney): Deep ruby, clear and bright with some tears. On the nose the wine is clean, developing with medium intensity aromas of leather, cream, chocolate, toast, cedar, blackcurrant, slight herbaceous - mint. In the mouth the wine is dry with medium plus acid, tannin, alcohol, body and medium flavour intensity with flavours of blackcurrant, chocolate sweet spice and touches of cedar. There is a bit of a mid-scoop and the alcohol intrudes. Hmm
