Post Joachim Concerto and audition day dinner (Trelissick Crescent, Ngaio, Wellington, New Zealand): Drunk next to a 2014 Central Otago Pinot and a 2014 Dundee Hills Pinot (to keep them honest), this was powerful, and structured, but also slightly on the dour side! Iron ore, tree bark, black cherry, and earth express its terroir very well, but the linear,,structured nature of the wine pears to be part of its personality. The two new world wines are far more candied and generous in the mouth, even if this wine is the more complex. I liked all three.

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs -med dark red purple no bricking -restrained stony dark red fruit -med/med+ acidity, med weight with abundant stony intensity and earthy high-toned black cherry, notable and moderately long finish combining lingering tart acidity med fine-grained tannins and a mildly bitter licorice element -displaying good village and vintage typicity, drinking well now if a bit closed, will be better in 5-10 years

Served to me double blind. Light ruby colour. Lovely floral bouquet, red fruit, earth, spices and with a slightly lactic element, Thierry identified. In the mouth, surprising power. I guessed the wine as a Cote de Nuits, and I certainly didn't have it as a Pommard. Quite elegant and refined. I was also surprised how accessible this was as a 2010 Pommard but of course it has years ahead of it. Mid weight. Decent length.

Blind Pinot Noir Tasting - OR/CA vs France Score 12/20 in blind tasting. Ranked #4 of 7.
Medium ruby/garnet color. Aroma of berries and tart fruit. Medium body. Light and tart with cranberries/cherries on the palate with a dash of spice. Still young. Short plus to medium finish.

This is shut down but has real potential. Has the brightness, freshness, and structure that is so good in 2010.
