Nose of smoke and earth. Light mouthfeel, with some pinot fruit, but mostly mineral in the mid palate. Finish is surprisingly tannic and grippy with good structure. Very enjoyable.

GRAPE VARIETIES: PINOT NOIR ALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 12,5%
Appearance: Clear, medium ruby.
Clean nose of medium(+) intensity, developing. Aroma characteristics: ripe red and black fruit (redcurrant, black cherry) with additional notes of florality, pungent spice and minerality (roses, black pepper, forest floor).
Dry on the palate with medium(+) level of acidity and medium level of ripe tannin. Medium level of alcohol, medium-bodied. Medium(+) level of intensity. Aroma characteristics are mirrored on the palate, with additional hints of sweet spice (oak). Soft mouthfeel, long finish.
Hans-Peter Ziereisen is a real star in the making, and this wine is a real beauty. Soft, yet focused. Intensely fruity, yet "transparent" and rather complex. I dare you to find an intenser pinot noir at this alcohol level - and a better pinot noir at this price point. Ready to drink, but will keep.

Fragrant, more Burgundian that new world, but it doesn't have the finish to make the up front flavors last. Enjoyable, good with food. Just not all that profound, but again, enjoyable.

Decanted for about two hours, poured back into the bottle and consumed over three days. The wine was very light ruby in colour. It offered cherry, raspberry, bacon fat, spices, vanilla, baked pastry case and some smoke on the nose. On the palate the wine was ripe, with cherry, raspberry, bacon fat, spices, vanilla and a hint of liquorice. The elegant, light- to medium-bodied wine had very good length. The tannins were still quite present. A good effort with potential to improve over the next 3+ years, though I am not quite certain where this Pinot will ultimately end up. Also, in the EUR 20 to EUR 25 price range I clearly preferred the Friedrich Becker Spätburgunder "B" 2009 to this Ziereisen Blauer Spätburgunder Schulen 2009. 86+
