  • Well I probably should have tucked into this a couple of years ago but I am a believer in the aging potential of even dry Riesling's, of which this is. It had a slight yellow tint, clearly showing some age, with petrol, white peach and stony minerals showing. It felt gray to me. Does anyone else know what I mean? Kind of like wet stone that was impeding the fruit. And the finish had just a slight bitterness that was a bit unpleasant. Still, a good, solid wine but not at Pichler’s price point.

  • Under screwcap. Took a couple of days to open, but when it came around, it was great; razorblade precision, lean, strict but with plenty of fruit still. Very primary.

  • Much improved relative to the prior bottle, with better balance throughout. Medium-light straw color. Spicy nose, starting to take on the mature Riesling petrol aroma. This has a buttery texture on the palate, with an underlying flinty note, and the citric, spicy sensation of grapefruit on the finish. Acidity remains strong, supportive of a few additional years in the cellar. Rock-solid Riesling, supportive of the Pichler reputation.

  • Pale light green/lime color. The nose on this has pronounced petrol aromas, with a somewhat surprisingly yeasty note. The palate is bitterly acidic throughout, finishing with a harshly chemical tang. This doesn't just lack finesse; rather, it comes off as aggressively caustic. I'm not thrilled about having another bottle of this, but hopefully it will prove that this bottle was an aberration.

  • This is so well made. Grassy notes of petrol, lemon, lime, unripe stonefruit, and herbs. In the mouth this is tensile, youthful, and dry, showing a good cut, clean minerality, a lick of salt, and a honeysuckle finish that lasts.
