Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Dark garnet color. Nose of dark berry fruits and oak staves. Deep flavors of cassis, dark berries, a tiny bit of peppery spice, and french vanilla with an ever so infinitessimal note of cork underneath, maybe(?)... it also reminds me of their PS port but dry. The tannins are present but well evolved/resolved; one could age this without question for another 5-10 years given the plump fruit but why bother. The alcohol and fruit and tannin have a nice almost-balance and but for the dominance of the oak and the question mark about cork would be an exceptionally lovely wine. The finish is not huge but lingers pleasantly with, again, hints of vanilla bean and oak (maybe a bit much). And at the very end when the finish trails off I am reminded of two things: 1) what a great winery V Arroyo is to visit, one of the low-key gems of north napa valley, and 2) Marjorie Arroyo, one of the nicest realtors on the planet. Who knows whether this is a great wine or a modestly good wine but every time I drink a V Arroyo wine and I remember the place and the people I find myself pleased -- and that is worth more than a score don't you think? I wish I had more. not rated because I like them too much to reduce the experience to a number.
