Often the Earthquake Petite Sirah is the best wine in the Earthquake series and one of the better Petite Sirahs from California. But the 2010 vintage is merely good. Black in color, very ripe, densely flavored, and fruity, with none of the raisin sweetness in the Earthquake Zinfandel. What the 2010 needs is brighter acidity and tannins that are firmer and smoother. Instead, the acidity is too low to make the wine bright and energetic, and fails to clean out a slightly sweet flavor. And the tannins are haunted by a somewhat bitter and harsh edge that never went away when tasting the open bottle for a week.

Incredibly out of balance. Extremely boozy and over-oaked. Not much else to say. Generally speaking, I like Michael-David and the wines they produce. 2010 must have been a really warm vintage for Lodi.
When I want delicious oaky booze, I typically stick to bourbon.
