Burgundy Wimps (La Trompette, Chiswick): Medium gold. Mature nose, honey, over-ripe apple, touch of butterscotch. Similar on palate, a little flat with soft acidity and short finish. Past it’s best.

Last of three purchased at auction a few years back. Enjoyed with friends over dinner, so no notes at the time. Lovely gold colour showing its age. Good nose. Absolutely wonderful on the palate, great complexity but beautifully balanced with the oak completely integrated to give an almost creamy flavour spectrum. So silky in its mouthfeel and great length. It was continuing to evolve as we drank it and I'd love to try it again over a longer period to see how it would evolve. Not sure where else it can go but probably ok for a year or two for well stored bottles.

Last of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect level, wet cork, early Pox, drinkable but diminished, sherry tones! QG+ (14.5).
