Still really intense colour with just a bit of dusky crimson at the rim. Don't get a huge amount from the nose. On day 1 the wine was a bit tight on the palate but day two showing more tertiary flavours typical of Rhone Syrah. There's a degree of complexity but I wouldn't say it matched a good Crozes like Thalabert. Finishes nicely and a little length. This is certainly ready and I'd guess will hold for another 2-3 years.

I've been a fan of this Crozes since trying the 1985 vintage back in the mid 80s. I've been a little concerned whether the wines made under Frey ownership had moved away from the style I enjoyed but I think this 2010 is starting to show that evolution that I so enjoy.

I agree, Chris, in terms of Cotes-du-Rhone the Perrin 'Coudoulet de Beaucastel is a class act, and although kind of pricey for a CdR is value-for-money because it is just so good. In great years, pretty much a bargain. Guigal is cheap and cheerful - probably the most 'commercial' CdR out there - but it ain't in CdB's class.

Horribly corked. Such a shame, you get the sense of a nicely matured wine underneath the flaw.
