  SangioFest, Volume III "It's my favourite spot" (Chicago, IL): Must admit I didn't love this. It's a bit prickly, with the lighter vintage maybe not playing harmoniously with the style back in 2008. I've no doubt the wines are better a decade or more later. Anyway, this had a bit of a licorice profile and a hint of oak tannin as well. I wish the fruit expression here was purer, as this did also have a slight diffuse quality to the palate.

  Have always found this wine a little underwhelming and lacking complexity. It’s good, but I will probably not go out of my way to buy again. They seem to have too many cru type wines that suck away the best fruit from this riserva and anata leaving both a bit sterile

  Classic, ripe, but not "old", still good acidity, very harmonious. But is certainly more at the end of the optimal drinking window.

  Italian evening at Nick's (Chez Nick): Quite a dark red. Killer rich and succulent fruit leaps from the glass, this is leafy, herbal, balanced and fresh. In a good spot, no real signs of age at 15, perhaps the magnum has slowed it down. Another great bottle that I thought was the best of this flight, top drawer.
