From Magnum purchased pre-arrival from Berkeley. Developed but not at all over the hill. Rich and round with nice sweet dark fruit, fine tannin and adequate remaining acidity. Delicious with food at a friend's Fat Tuesday potluck: jambalaya, red beans and rice, grilled catfish etouffee. Definitely "bam".

Medium garnet. Aromas of prunes, serrano ham, coffee, a bit of alcoholic heat. Concentrated sweet dry fruit on the palate with some nice dusty aromatic tannins, strong tannins, medium acids, medium body, long finish. 14.5% alcohol.

Medium ruby garnet. Pronounced aromas of dark plums, dry heath, wild roses, with a touch of oak, cinnamon, and chocolate. Lovely evolution on the palate with an inviting attack of dark fruit at the front moving into a broad delta at the back with strong acid edges and strong smooth tannins in the middle, under floating floral aromas and moving into a long dark fruit and umami finish. Each sip is a symphony. Perfect with veal pancetta parmesan roulades in a concentrated tomato sauce.

Still lying in wait to surpass its sibling Les Racines. Comparatively more fruit and more tannic. Normally for me it takes pole position by now (10 yrs), but not this vintage, just give it a few more years.

Wonderful dusty, fungal, floral aroma with some buried berries and savory hint of jambon cru. Dark salty fruit on the palate with great penetration and depth. Nice acidic balance on the middle moving into sweet aromatic tannins at the back. Excellent with rare hamburgers topped by rajas con crema.
