  • 100% Ruchè. Fermented spontaneously, bottled unfined and unfiltered. 13% alcohol. Tasted in a Rinaldi Rosae 2019-2011 vertical.

Very deep, dark and only slightly translucent blackish-red color. Ripe, sunny and somewhat savory nose with aromas of licorice, some dark forest fruits, a little bit of sweet plummy fruit, light smoky tones, a hint of gravelly earth and a perfumed touch of elderflower. The wine feels ripe, concentrated and quite full-bodied on the palate with a somewhat soft overall feel and quite rich yet at the same time rather savory flavors of raspberry marmalade, some licorice, a little bit of gravelly minerality, light evolved, meaty notes of umami, a hint of earthy spice and a touch of elderberry. The medium acidity doesn't feel high enough to bring good sense of freshness and zip to the wine, but at least the rather grippy tannins lend some nice firmness to the wine, making it feel even surprisingly tightly-knit for a Rosae. The finish is ripe, juicy and quite tannic with rich flavors of sweet black cherries, some dark raspberries, a little bit of earth and gravelly minerality, light notes of licorice root, a hint of elderberry and a touch of meaty umami.

A surprisingly big, ripe and even quite voluptuous vintage of Rosae that felt surprisingly big for the label - normally Rosae feels lighter and more delicate in style, and in this vertical this 2011 was one of the weightiest vintages we had. However, the ripeness and big body have come at the price of relatively low acidity, making the wine lack the freshness and brightness that are the hallmarks of this wine. While the wine shows good sense of complexity and depth of flavor, it is unfortunately lacking in the freshness and playful energy, which are the characteristics I value the most in this label. This might be an impressively big and hedonistic vintage of Rosae, but I preferred the lighter 2012 and 2013 vintages over this one. Nevertheless, this is a good and enjoyable effort, even if it is a bit clumsy for my taste.

  • Very similar note except for a lactic touch on the nose and some fennel on the palate. Yummy stuff!

  • Roses, roses, roses on the nose. With some peach stone, ripe black cherries and fresh plums.
Surprisingly full on the palate with good tannic grip and balanced acidity. Finely structured. Dark fruit similar to nose. Dusty and tannic from mid-palate on with some perfumy florality, incense and orange rind. Pretty long.
Oh boy, what a treat! Riper and more full bodied than the '10. But still a small masterpiece.

  • Young and juicy. Cherries and white pepper. Fresh and easy.
