  • Tasted as part of a theme over the past few weeks of older Napa. Clearly over the hill but still enjoyable. Last remnants of dark fruit still showing on the nose with secondary notes (baking spices) slightly present but muted. On the palate there is still some fruit but a bit sour with a quick finish and surprisingly still tannic?

  • I had sampled this years before at the winery and it felt slightly faded, so I thought I should open this sooner than later. Paired with new york strips seared on a cast iron skillet in butter. Cork was soft and broke off (had to use a Durand to finish opening) so I was concerned...and surprise, surprise - the wine was drinking wonderfully. Fully mature of course and no hint of tannins, but at full power with plum and currant notes and some leafy finishing notes. Drink now and I hope your luck is as good as mine was.

  • Well past its prime so this is really unfair as I would have liked to taste this before its downhill spiral. Stored properly yet cork broke apart. Sediment in the bottle was excessive. Big nose up front almost a rich maple syrup type smell, then it was gone. the wine simply has started its long spiral trend towards oblivion. Some hints of dark fruits, but its finish was lacking. Again past its prime I'm sure it was great in its time.

  • Served with beef and broccoli. Opened only 20 minutes before serving. Nice purple color, no apparent fading. Cedar and dark fruit on the nose. Still lively and robust, a very smooth, extended finish. Moderate amount of sediment. I saw/smelled/tasted nothing to indicate that this vintage has passed its prime.
