  • A field blend of Tempranillo, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. Aged for 13 months partially in oak, partially in stainless steel. Made in a mainly non-interventionist fashion.

Very dense, practically completely opaque, purple-red color. Somewhat restrained, but very complex and nuanced nose with aromas of blackcurrants, Porty aromas of ripe figs, some oak spice, a little wet granite and hints of floral aromatics. As the wine opens in the glass, oak aromas become more noticeable, introducing hints of chocolate, blueberries and roasted nuts. However, the oak character remains very well-integrated with the fruit, never becoming overwhelming. On the palate the wine is very full-bodied, almost massive and really chewy with flavors of dry but very sunny dark fruit flavors, some alcohol heat (15,5%!) and concentrated flavors of cassis, prunes, Porty fig notes and hints of peppery spice. Despite being 6 years old, the wine is extremely youthful and primary. It is tremendously structured with medium-to-moderate acidity and really massive, firm and aggressively grippy, grainy tannins. The finish is long, complex and quite hot with powerful flavors of ripe dark berries, pplummy fruit, roasted spices, some oaky chocolate notes and hints of savory cigar box. The aftertaste is really grippy, astringent and mouth-drying due to the massive tannins.

Despite its almost excessive alcohol the wine was still a very positive experience - although the very primary fruit and the massice tannins suggested that this wine was opened some 10-15 years too early. This is all about aging potential, no use opening this one for many years. Lovely, rustic, old-school style. Simply incredible value at only 11,70€.
