  • Opened an hour or so before drinking
Dark fruit (cherry, raspberry), tobacco, spice, slight floral- violet, earth. Good acidity. Bright. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable

  • The wine had only soaked 1cm into the cork. Plenty of fine sediment, needs a careful decant and we didn't so it was a bit muddy looking.
Plenty of leather, tobacco and sour cherries all intertwined. Quite fresh but plenty of development, will keep for longer but not sure how much more it will improve

  • Not decanted, poured into shoulder and allowed to breathe for 4 hours and paired with duck confit and fresh black truffle risotto. Medium-dark ruby colour. Just a hint of bricking at the rim. Sottobosco, wet leaves/earth, and just a hint of truffle on the nose joined by hints of herbs, leather, dried violets. Medium-full bodied, showing excellent grip, acidity, and balance. Black plums, blackberry, dried strawberry, and sottobosco notes on the palate. Long finish, ~40-45s with more sottobosco and dark fruit with time.

I'm very happy to know that this performed like my first bottle (fantastic) and not like my second (not so much). I hope my last one shows as well as this because the 1990 Fuligni is dynamite stuff. It's a situation where bottle-to-bottle differences will start to show and I would say the wine is at peak for the most part and no harm in drinking (or holding if desired).

  • Dinner at Fiddler's Green (Southwest Harbor, Maine): Showing a bricked red color in the glass with a ruby core and a clear rim at the edge of the glass. The scents from this wine were very earth driven as notes of mushrooms, granite, and manure overshadowed the lighter notes of red fruits on the nose. In the mouth flavors of sour cherries, earth, and dried strawberries lingered nicely on the palate as light hints of minerals and cedar unfolded along a medium length finish. Such a true pleasure to taste...

  • Wino Guys Weekend (WGW) #2; 11/7/2008-11/8/2008: Poured into should and slow-ox'd for 4 hours. Ruby colour. Evolved nose of sottobosco, dried cherry, orange rind, porcini mushrooms. Medium-bodied, and requires a lot of concentration to get some dried currant, orange rind, and sottobosco notes on the palate. Kind of flat tasting. Moderate finish, ~30-35s, with more dried fruit.

Very disappointing in comparison to the previous bottle opened in April. I don't find this representative. 87 if a score must be given, but I'll leave it NR.
