Sixth of the reds in our South African blind tasting. This is the benchmark bottling's older brother. Bigger and badder. Deep purplish red. Lovely and powerful nose with dark cocoa, espresso beans, dark plums, and blackberries. Heavy tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Explosive palate with tons of dark berries and spices. Excellent structure and rounded body. Long and lingering finish, built for the long haul. Drink till 2037.

From the 'owner's private' wine list at Noop, in Paarl. Very inky deep ruby-purple color. Damson plums. Well integrated tannins. Long finish. Very nice, if not terribly complex. Paired very well with roast duck.
