  • Decanted off a decent amount of sediment. Quite aromatic, tar and roses, in the deeper end of the spectrum. Same on the palate - red cherry but also black cherry, tobacco and smoke. Medium+ body, medium acidity and fine, grippy tannins. 15% ABV but not hot or roasted. Lacking finesse, but not lacking in appeal.

  • After two mediocre bottles from Schiavenza (another 2008 Bricco Cerretta and a 2011 Broglio) this bottle here marks a return to form.
Moderately browning colour. On the nose this shows the complexity of an evolved Barolo with a perfume of very sweet fruitmelange, licorice, flowers, glue and dirty notes of treebark and moss. However, unlike said previous bottles this has not a muddled, but a precise nose. In the mouth the wine feels surprisingly youthful. While the flavours have turned autumnal and it's difficult to name the dominant fruit (maybe cherries), the mouthfeel is fresh and vibrant and the wine is held in shape by still a good amount of chalky tannin. On the finish the wine is powerful, sweet and persistent. What I really enjoy, despite 15% ABV there are no signs of heat or roasted flavours.
Overall the wine is rather old-fashioned and rustic, but it is also charming. While it feels structurally sane, the evolved flavours would make me drink this rather sooner than later.

  • Medium dark reddish garnet in color with ever-so-slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & aromatic nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, boysenberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of roses & orange rind, earthy/dusty, tar, herbs, minerals & a hint of cedar. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, mulberries & plums, minerals, spices, herbs, iron & a slight hint of oak in the background. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well presently with decanting & extended airing. Even at 12 years old, it still has potential for further development with additional aging if cellared properly.

  • This is clearly in it's drinking window now. It has notes of tar, dark red fruit and hints of menthol that fill out and expand in a seemless finish. Tannins are super fine and barely percievable. It hasn't taken on any secondary characteristics but it's in beautiful shape right now and everything I want in Barolo. We paired with Pork Rib Roast and it worked perfectly.
