A revelation. Thanks ACYSO. A gorgeous, complex Pinot Noir that has it all -- beautiful fruit, earthy layered complexity and impeccable balance. Continued to improve over the course of a couple hours at dinner so would reckon there is still upside. A stunning nose that is lifted and dense with still-sweet cherry and cranberry fruit, mushroom, new leather and green herb. On the palate this has lovely earthy cherry presented in a light-to-medium body. Bright acids amplify the depth and nuance. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

Dinner with the Steakhouse in the Corner (Chicago, IL): Stunning. Absolutely stunning. If half of Burgundy only wishes it could be like this at twenty years old. A nose that has all of the hallmarks of pinot noir: red fruit, mulch, mushrooms, earth, and dirt. The palate has a lot of red fruit as well, but they show a real freshness thanks to really racy acidity. The earth shows up just the same as well. Perhaps the differentiating factor here from Burgundy is that the fruit shows more sweetness and ripeness, holding the fresh red-fruitedness constant.

The Eyrie Vineyards Vintage Tour (Ambonnay Champagne Bar, in Portland, Oregon): The wine shows some brick color in the glass, and has aromas of sun dried grass in a meadow. Scents of dried cherries and some strawberry perfume are faint in the background. When tasted, light strawberries supported by apple-like acidity show on contact. Gentle cherry flavors appear on the mid palate, while the age shows itself as some cherry skins and a bit of earth. Great acidity lingers throughout the whole experience, and a hint of cherries lingers long on the finish.
