Community Tasting Notes (4) Median Score: 87 points

  • A single bottle, purchased ten years ago, just after release. Temperature controlled cellarage since, so no storage issues. I probably should have enjoyed it in its youth, because it has all but dried out by now. Hollow and stalky nose; on the palate there are only vestiges of (no doubt once luxurious) cherry fruit and spice, and the wine is dry and dusty, dominated by quite formidable tannins, with light flavours (liquorice) and a long and slatey finish. A wine of size and substance, but it has not survived the canicule. Drink up if you have any left. (85). Retasted from the bottle after five days in the cellar. Has softened considerably, retains a juicy freshness and feels more harmonious, even if a certain dryness in the tannins remains. Much better. (87).

  • I found this to be disappointing and maybe I was expecting too much. While the color and aroma were good to begin, I thought the finish was average and slighly bitter/metallic. Sugar levels are light (by desert and Sauterne standard). Drank with a fruit (berry) trifle and the wine was light and not able to complement.

  • Rich sweet dark fruit balanced by tobacco and long tannin finish. Wonderful unique experience. Drunk at 12 degrees.
