Tasted side by side with the 1997 Rhinefarm. Interesting comparison even thought the '97 was significantly better. The 2000 was much darker in color, dark purple, and did not reflect the same brightness or sweetness as its older sibling. The 2000 did reflect some of the same floral notes on the nose and the same minerality on the palate. This is fairly one dimensional and not as layered as the '97 but still a nice bottle of wine.

Dark inky purple color - medium bodied. Tasted in comparison with the 1997, the 2000 was not as polished or complex, perhaps reflecting a more modest vintage. Dark berry fruit flavors are more subdued giving way to a layer of mineral and tea and hint of leather on the moderate finish.. Tasted with/at WConnolly's - see his tasting notes below.

Gundlach Bundschu is one of the 'Old World' Brother In Law's favorites from back in the day. We opened this one to go with grilled rib eyes and it did the job rather nicely with black fruits and decent acidity. While there were some green veggie flavors to deal with the overall profile of this wine was good.

A bit heavy and tannic, which was a little surprising for a 2000 vintage. I originally pour it with the grilled strips and ribeye I grilled, but then poured it back into a decanter and pulled another bottle. We got back to it after finished the 2001 Davis Family cab. The Gooney-Booney was more approachable at that time but I didn't think it was anything special. I doubt I'd buy any more of this producer based on this tasting

Still quite delicious and not missing a beat...This is a very medium bodied textured and layered wine with subtle power...drinking very well now
