With the grill fired up after the rain passed thru, opened this. If the '11s lack anything, it's perhaps a little complexity as they age, but who really ages Zin? Almost ten years on and this is smooth, deep, velvety without being furry. It's Zin the way it should be. Went great with lamb skewers marinated with Gochujang, rice vinegar, a little soy, and chicken basted with same and a little ginger. So sad that the Zin had to be uprooted for CS, as the soils were making it increasingly unmanageable as a Zin vineyard.

Just about one year after the last bottle and don't let it be said these don't improve. I'm beginning to think 2011 was a classic vintage, not a cold one. This has opened up with lots of approachable fruit without the jamminess, really nice cool blueberry flavors, nice marriage of oak, layers of herbs without being green. We opened a '12 after plowing through most of this and maybe it's just the age, but that was a little flabbier and not as outright delicious. Glad I have another--when the grill gets used again, we'll revisit!

Opened after consuming a Ridge Cabernet, so maybe not completely fair, but this shows what Rockpile can produce in a tough vintage. Really balanced zin, with those great dark fruit and bramble flavors, clean acidity, great marriage of oak.

Nice and still young...nice acidity and tannin that should allow it to age nicely. No hurry.

Outstanding. Hints of graphite, flowers, and mint?
