  • Some dark fruits on the nose, but burnt vanilla and a hint of alcohol are most noticeable. Spice and a touch of dark cherry on the palate, with moderate tannins. I've never had this varietal other than in a blend before, and it was a pleasantly interesting experience. Not something I would drink regularly, but I would love to throw a few bottles of this in the cellar and see how it evolves over time.

  • Tasted at Spago Beverly Hills. Special thanks to Somm Gloria for directing us to this gem. Medium ruby in the glass, Nose of black fruits, cacao, anise and earth. Balanced tannins embrace the tongue followed by concentrated black fruits, black licorice and a tasty peppery spice. Medium long finish pleases long after the juice is gone. Origin Olifants river South Africa.
