This is an interesting wine. From Tinta Barroca (a grape native to Portugal's Douro) vines planted in 1974. There is some resemblance to Burgundy, Loire and Northern Rhone. The nose is savory, a bit floral, a little gamey, and showing mostly cherry fruit along with crushed rocks. On the palate, tght, bright, and a bit lean, like a young premier cru from the Cotes de Beaune. Finishes a bit chewy, with rhubarb notes. Lacks a bit of depth that would take it to the next level. Intriguing, and fair value at the $25 I paid, but overpriced at full retail of $60+. I'll lay down my remaining 2 bottles for 5+ years to see if they fill out and develop additional depth.

Nose: Deep aromas of dark fruit like plums, but also light aromas of cranberries and rose petals, some wood and smoke. Could remind me of Nebbiolo.
Palate: Also deep and complex on the palate, but still with a fresh acidity and minerality. Actually surprisingly approachable after a few hours of decanting.

Super. ****

Dark purple, smoky dark purple fruit on the nose. Immediately would have guessed Northern Rhone if didn’t know what this was.
Med+ tannin and acid. Dark fruit flavors some plum/black cherry and even a little meaty notes.
Really nice and balanced wine even this young. Another surprise wine that would love to try again with 5 years or more age on it.
