Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London): Slightly dusty glass. Sweet spice, plum, it of chocolate, vanilla oak, slightly jubey notes. Medium plus intensity acidity (presumably adjusted) which lends tartness to the palate, plummy fruit is quite muted, chalky tannins, alcohol warmth lends a slight portiness. Pretty unrepentant.

23082022 - dinner at Yik Kee. My blind bottle for the night. Popped & bottle breathe this 2.5hrs before dinner. Nose; perfume stewed dark cherry, strawberry jam, hint of graphite with a touch of herbaceous notes. Palate; medium bodied & medium acidity. Found it a bit loose at mid-palate and lack the oomph towards the end. Finish has plenty of tertiary flavors accompanied with hint of orange peel

Prior bottle was a bit over two years ago and while the wine showed quite well, I may have been a bit generous in my initial scoring. Mixed blackfruit on the nose along with an earthy, stemy quality. A bit above medium bodied with black cherry upfront, adding darker plum through the middle and then brighter blackberry behind. Currant notes along with minerals, earth and balanced tannins through the finish balance the fruit well. This doesn't have the depth that it previously demonstrated, but its balance has improved. While still somewhat "modern" in style, it's moving away from that initial profile and towards a somewhat more traditional feel. Even through I moved the score down, that's less a reflection about what I think about this wine (I actually might enjoy it more now than I did then) and more that I was simply too generous initially. This still has a long way to go and I may save my next bottle for November 2021 as I think future improvement is still strongly possible if the integration and balance both improve as this bottle showed they can.

coffee bean, green stemmy notes, rich with a mineral spine. Mikology said "barnyard". Firm tannins. No rush.
