Community Tasting Notes (5) Median Score: 93 points

  • I'm really not seeing the thrill in keeping these wines much longer. Fairly generic nose, not much depth or texture - just a rather dialled down version of a typical NZ pinot. A touch of truffle and soft strawberry note. Orange rim - starting to mature and decline. Dissapointing.

  • Blind Chard and Pinot Tasting: Rhubarb, blackcurrant, cola and stalks. Medium weight fruit on the palate, some brightness to it but very little depth. The stalk gives it some interest but it doesn't feel like there is to much else there.

  • Sweet and very herbal nose of cherry and NZ wild thyme. Fairly full and luscious in the mouth but without feeling heavy, good acidity, a gentle very slightly drying astringency, lick of sweet oak and fruit in the finish. A bit firm on the palate (like many NW cool climate Pinot Noir). Nothing profound, but enjoyable to drink

  • One hour in the decanter.
    Transparent ruby red in colour.
Pronounced nose of roses, briar, and dusty sweetness. Delicious bouquet.
Light palate, but develops weight from front to back.
Initial cranberry, sweet red cherries, minor acidity, tannin toward the back palate is clean into the finish. Light white pepper lifts the fruit with more briar rather than forest floor, never losing it's welcomed sweetness not found in so many sour cherry pinots. Not two dimensional at all, the longer in the glass, the more interest is found.
Let this breathe, it's a stayer at only 4 yrs of age.
    94 first, 93 on a revisit.

  • Not in the same league as the Kiwa or Kupe single vineyard wines, this is more aligned with the generic NZ pinot profile - sweet, rounded and a little bit dull. It does have a flicker of interest and could develop into something more promising, but the acidity and strcuture is lacking, I'm more inclined to the Kiwa, which at the same price gives a bigger bang for your buck.
