During PNV week, lunch at the Cardinale House with Chris Carpenter and team. Really spectacular setting and fantastic hosts. Great to drink this with winemaker Chris Carpenter, he wrote his thesis on Malbec at Davis and taught our group about the varietal. Very unusual to find Malbec in Napa.
Medium/dark purple. Mt Veeder fruit, big plush fruit forward wine. Full mouthfeel but not a chewy wine. Black fruits, spice, cinnamon. The spice/cinnamon came out to all our tasters.
Not everyone would like this wine, our group did across the board. The setting and the company gives it a few points in overall experience. Worth trying if you can find it

Normally a blending grape in California, as well as in Bordeaux, this is a fun wine to bring to a blind tasting, with its spicy, ripe, sweet, open, fat character.

Mt. Veeder Tasting. Nose of minerals, Mt. Veeder earth, cinnamon and allspice, more of the same on the palate, loaded with cinnamon like a fresh baked donut, big fruity taste, medium/long finish.

Very nice, bright, not overly firm or structured. A goid example of California malbec.

At Bar Bouloud, London. Very nice. Rich, full and fruit-led, medium bodied but fresh, would happily have drunk another bottle.
