Opened about 1 hour prior to serving. Pours a dark, vivid red. On the nose there's notes of briar, red cherry, balsamic, oak, and kitchen spices. Very big and mouthfilling on the palate, with still-young tannins. A bit volatile as it opened, this was still very fun and interesting, and quite unlike any other Barbera I've tasted.

Nose of reduced red berries, with some dusty, dried, rustic tones. Nicely balanced fruit, earth, touch of spice, and integrated oak. Ample acid, but certainly not as high-toned as other Barbera offerings. I find this to have an uncommon complexity compared to other producers of Barbera. It also has an appealing richness with a framework of structure to make me guess that this can only further improve with more bottle age, although presently in a nice drinking window. An attractive value at $27. Portovino Imports.
