David’s 1999 Cote de Nuits (Lorne, London): Bright and vibrant. Really very fragrant, all freshly cut freesias. Finely silky. Just a gentle grip reminding one it’s ‘99. Served a little warm but this is very proper and extremely attractive. ****1/2

My last bottle of this and a very good one. Supple fruits on the darker end of the red spectrum. Resolved tannin and silky Pinot Noir fruit with classic dusty sous bois and leather notes. A bit of spice as a topnote and there is just enough remaining structure to hold it all together. Very satisfying Burgundy that is in exactly in the zone where I want to drink it. It went a bit faster than optimal (well, because it was so delicious) so I didn't get to linger over it as much as I might like. This is the last bottle of this wine or any Cathiard from my cellar and the world would have to change to reverse that given current pricing.

Had this in my cellar for a long time. PnP. Color is fairly deep ruby with some orange on the rim. On the nose: Cherry, red berries and bit of barnyard. On the palate: Red berries. Very uni-dimensional and simple.

Opened 2 hours. Color is still youngish ruby red , but some orange on the rim. On the nose: Cherry, vanilla and a hint of forest floor. On the palate: Shy sour cherry, forest floor, and heavy dose of tannins and good acidity. Good old world burgundy. May disappoint those looking for more fruit but it’s a good food wine.

David's 1999 Côtes de Nuits 1er Cru, Village by Village Horizontal (Lorne Restaurant, London): Iodine and brine on the nose here. Some almond puree too and Morello cherry. Palate is classing and giving (phew!) spicy and perfectly balanced. My wine of the night. Cracking.
