I've now tried a few bottles over the past 3 weeks and noticed some variation, this particular one is a notch better than the previous. Opened to breathe for 2h before sampling, there is ample cedar and pepper on the nose, the palate has faded strawberries, oak, acid, unresolved alcohol, and a black pepper finish that is rather tasty.

First bottle from a case purchased at auction and I admit that I'm disappointed. This is past its prime. On the nose, interesting earthy musty forest notes. On the palate, lots of evergreen, hints of faded red berries, a touch of black pepper, and an acid finish. Not bad, but the fruit is long gone, leaving an intellectually interesting but not necessarily tasty wine for me tonight.
Overnight, this integrated and the evergreen (which I'm not particularly fond of) diminished. Now we have a fully mature, end stage rhone with again complex interesting tertiary characteristics. Slightly more fruit than yesterday, along with more soft peppery notes in the long finish. Will try again soon to test bottle variation in this case. 89/90

Wonderful spicy Northern Rhone Syrah, with great style and lovely fragrance.
