  • Popped and poured. Dark ruby color. Nose of scorched earth, asphalt, black cherry, black plum and some toasty oak coming through. Similar flavors on the palate with a mix of dark, slightly raisined fruit, oak and spice. Some heat coming through on the finish for sure. Good acidity but overwhelmed a bit by the oak and alcohol. Lovers of ripe Cali pinot would probably really dig this because it's a tasty wine but not really for me.

  • Bright and floral on the nose with red fruit in abundance. Some baking spice and then earthiness to finish. Good acidity for food friendliness. Might have even had a touch of secondary fermentation.

7/25/2020 The earthiness almost gave way to asphalt at one point, but then nature intervened and the nicely integrated oak took over and guided it to a long finish. Lots of fruit, but it's the late palate that dominates.

12/20/2020 This time my notes reflecting the earthiness giving way to meatiness. Regardless, the finish on this wine has a lot to investigate.

  • Brilliant wine, depending on how you prefer your pinots.

On the nose, I detect cinnamon, spice-box and exotic dark fruits. On the palette, it's lithe, viscous and sweet. Tannins are already well integrated. Excellent balance, structure, texture and elongated finish. I would like to taste this 3 years from now to see where it evolves to. Struggling to see how it could possibility evolve to a better place at this point…

  • On the nose, pinot fruit with a bit of soapy floral and an incense spice that combines for an alluring overall impression. On the palate, not as full throttle as a few other AP Pinots, which is a good thing for me. Rich fruit, but not a fruit bomb given a good dose of counterbalancing acidity. This might be my favorite of the '12 AP Pinots, as it is more balanced and restrained than my recollection of some of the others. On the fence re: QPR. I'd probably tip towards "buy" if I could know that future vintages would have the same character. But other bottlings from this vintage/vineyard have been a bit too bold for me, so I'm having a hard time, with a limited sample set, nailing down house style.

  • A bit young; quite tasty but will add more weight and complexity with time hopefully.
