Krug Paired with Great Music (Louis Vuitton - Chicago IL): Late release Grande Cuvée with 2001 as the "base" wine, although we were told a smaller % of 2001 than typical for the base. Fully mature ripe apple, possibly borderline mealy apple with toasted bread. Good depth. I've started realizing I like these older Grande Cuvée vintages from only the best editions, such as the 1996 base edition I opened in March.

Age is evident from the color here, a very rich and complex Grand Cuvee that clearly benefitted from time. This will go toe to toe with many Tete de Cuvee Champagnes, and certainly as good as much vintage Krug of comparable age.

Probably the best Krug NV that I've ever had. The % of reserve wines that went into this blend really shows. Drinking absolutely beautiful right now. Great balance. Shows none of the austerity you get with some recently disgorged NVs.

Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Beze event; 9/11/2015-9/12/2015 (Capella Hotel Georgetown): I remember this and other special MV cuvees selling for around $400 at the Sotheby’s Krug auction a few years ago. This is definitely more mature than the regular MV. I slightly prefer the 30+ year old MVs which this resembles close. Ripe yellow fruit driven nose, apple pie, apple, a hint of brioche, creme brulee, ginger and honey. Very good concentration, fine but shy moose, ripe yellow fruit driven palate impression, good acidity and decadently sweet finish. Very nice wine but not necessarily better than the regular MV.

Rich, opulent Krug. Some oxidative characteristics starting to become a bit more prominent. Still has gobs of crisp acidity.
