Ripe and stewed black fruit aromas. plenty of black pepper, grip, and heat. Maturing, savory tertiary notes of burnished leather, also pencil lead, stoniness. Old world vibes on palate. The Phoenix vineyard is no longer planted to Syrah after 2017.

Dark in the glass, almost black. Stinky nose; black olives, barnyard and a bit of cork taint. Very dry and tannic, biting wirh pepper. Blackberry, currant, and casssis. Dark fruit wirh brooding tannins.

Opened for 6 hours (but did not decant) prior to drinking. Consensus favorite in blind tasting of 3 Syrahs. Rich nose, inky in color. Incredibly plush wine - had minerality, smoke and rich fruit; some charcoal on finish. Tannins have mellowed, but still provide structure. Served with orrechiette with Italian sausage, fennel and chard. Drinking very well.

Very nice, well balanced oak, spice, earthy, berries, not over the top (at least at this early age…)
