Young Guns of Chablis (Arlequin Wines, San Francisco): Medium yellow. Green herbs. Stone fruit and vanilla flavors-hardly classic. Round, very textural due to a fair amount of oak, lower acidity, and bitter finish from the wood tannins. Clumsy and not up to par for this site.

Smells of river rocks drizzled with honey. Fruit is ripe and there's a suggestion of spiced pear. It is rich with plenty of cool rockiness and citrus running down the spine. It is generous and open knit and thoroughly enjoyable at this early juncture.

Dinner with Patrick Piuze (Seäsonal Restaurant & Weinbar, New York, NY): This wine has all of the classic Chablis characteristics in spades, and compared with the 2012 Les Clos it's far more accessible at this young age. Grapefruit and kumquat are pleasant additions to the bouquet. In the mouth there's high acid and loads of minerals, with nice citrus notes. Right now the wine is angular--it's tart, and it makes your mouth pucker--but the right ingredients are present for it to develop into a beautifully balanced wine. RECOMMENDED.

I enjoyed this wine with cheeses although I found it a tad sour on its own and slightly acidic with meat.
