  • This was in a beautiful spot! Great wine from a great winemaker. Medium intensity on the nose with red and black cherry, kirsch, black currant, figs, dried red fruit, leather, some floral notes, minerality. Medium+ acidity, medium+ (fully integrated) tannins, long velvety finish

This is not going downhill any time soon, but I don’t expect it to further improve

  • Wonderful wine!
    Deeply colored, almost opaque.
Intensely perfumed and pure nose with no sign of oak, quite floral with notes of violets, damson, a trace of dill.
On the palate it is soft and mellow and concentrated but still supple. Purity of fruit, freshness and good length.
At a perfect stage to drink but still youthfull.
An excellent wine from the "rare bird" variety Prieto Picudo.

  • Deep purple in color w/aromas of lavender, red/black fruit, bacon fat and Herb de Provence. Richly appointed compote of red/black fruit is accompanied with flavors of game meat, dark chocolate and base minerality. Elegantly constructed and voluminous on the palate; with measured acidity present to counter unctuous fruit. Envelopes the mouth providing long mouth-coating finish. Big wine to cozy up with on a long winter's night and would certainly pair well with a roast meat.

  • A private lunch (Restaurant Etxebarri *, Axpe, Spain): Scented, perfumed nose, soft red berry fruit, spices from the oak (17 months on French barriques), flowers and smoked bacon; the palate is silky and charming, has depth and mineral drive, freshness and a good stuffing of fruit; on the finish there is a slight, distracting note of bitter cocoa powder. Just a hint of brett?
