From 75cl, good cork. The skinny, acidic, sour-cherry characteristics were unpleasant on opening, but a hour in the decanter helped. Boillot is a skilled wine-maker, whose village Puligny blanc I think of fondly. But much "1. Cru" Volnay has its limits even in a fine year like 2002 (would anybody seriously consider buying this if it came from the Mornington peninsular, the Cape or Otago at 30 EUR/40 US$ retail?) Fully mature, won't improve. 85P

Monday Wine Club (BYOB at Hawksmoor) (Hawksmoor Air Street): Great nose, earthy, musty. Also a distinct cream or dairy aroma. Palate holds true to the nose. I think this was the only bottle of the tasting that was not decanted, and probably could have used it. A bit of an acidic bite on the end. It was still opening up by the time it was gone. Good to very good. 92

Aroma: Red berries, smoke, minerals, earth, oak and a hint of fresh ground coffee. Light to medium bodied wine with good acidity and tight tannins. Good length.

Well made pinot. On the rustic, chewy side. Not elegant. But good fruit and good power.
