2012 Pinot Tasting + some lovely supplementals (@Private location, Sersheim): Glass: Zalto Burgundy Tasted blind. Wine decanted about 1h before. Deep, ruby color. Nose easily hints towards Burgundy with its finesse, elegance and complexity. We were quite certain, that this is the Chambertin, but I was not overly impressed of its current performance. It has everything it needs, but needs 5+ years to develop the complexity and balance it should have. We re-tasted the wine after 1-2 hours and it has significantly improved, so it really needs a lot of air and patience. Nevertheless it has a wonderful structure, powerful, but silky tannin and a wonderful length. 93-94++ Would love to taste it again in 5 years against the Morstein and would like to see, how they have developed...

A deeper nose versus the griotte, charmes and mazoyeres with similar aromatics of red and black fruit. More power and complexity than the other grand cru in the line up. Precise dark fruit and minerals on the palate. Like the structure and density here. Forward and approachable.
