My first time having a Duckhorn Merlot - really nice merlot. I can understand why people say that Duckhorn makes the best merlot because this thing rocks (even in a off vintage like 2011). I've had this in my cellar for a good 5+ years. The nose has cherries and plums/dried figs layered into it with some hints of licorice and tobacco pipe. The palate is medium bodied, smooth, not over the top but luscious and really delicious.
It drinks really smooth, can be paired with anything, and not over the top. A nice everyday drinker and good break from drinking cabernets. This proves that Napa can make other really good wines in a new world style besides cabernet! I would absolutely buy this again. We drank this over 2 hours - it did not evolve over that time so it is probably in its prime drinking window now.

Last bottle in my cellar. Served with lamb chops and asparagus. As the last bottle, opened up nicely after 15 minutes. Deep color, notes of rich blackberry jam on the palate, soft tannins, ruby color and wonderful long finish. Not much change from last year.

Blind tasting after 2 hours open...no decant. Nose was not pleasant, really had a stewed prunes and tar thing going on, little farmhouse. Definitely and old wine smell. I expected it may be turned based on nose but taste was good. After reveal I realized this bottle was a gift so cellar history is unknown.
Got burnt cherries on the front and charcoal and spice on the finish. Smoother tasting than the nose suggests. Not a complex taste. Sunset wine with cheese. Would decant 1 hour if I have another.

Off taste, not quite corked but not as savory delectable as I recall. Bottles have survived several moves, so likely a storage problem

Again no surprise with this excellent merlot from a premium winery. Served with cheese and charcuterie.
