Tasted side by side with 1994 DRC Richebourg. Quite a difference in styles (duh!). This bottle was a slightly lower fill than the other bottle I acquired, so I opened it first, hoping for the best. Decanted for sediment and poured into our glasses, the nose was huge, with blood and meaty aromas. Some bandaid notes, in fact might have been mistaken for an older Chave Hermitage. Every sip a pleasure.
The weight and aromas led us to the inevitable speculation as to whether this had been 'Hermitaged'. I have had a number of Ponnelle wines from the 50's and 60's and they have all been phenomenally youthful. I have to think that he probably boosted the wine with some Syrah. Who knows and who cares? Great bottle of wine.

Alas, my second and final bottle (the better fill of the two) was corked.
