So this was the wine we opened our wine gathering with. I poured an initial glass then set the bottle to air for 2 hours.
That first glass was beautiful. Great orchard flavors of yellow apples and poached pears. It also had some toasted bready notes. As it aired out, it really took on an orange wine type flavor showing a bit too much skin contact and giving the champagne a cider like flavor that covered up the great fruit. I have one bottle left and I wouldn’t let it sit too long. The initial fruit and flavors far outweigh any gains from further aeration over just swirling in the glass.
The initial glass was consumed using a Riedel sommelier champagne glass, while we used larger glasses to probe the flavors after it had some breathing.
I don’t think this has what it takes to gain anything more from aging. Though at least it doesn’t have any potato flavor that lingers in some lesser wines from that vintage.
While about $50US, I would have much rather have had bought another bottle of VC gold label or vintage Moët.

Härligt! Drack till diverse tilltugg mozzarella, padrones, sardeller, jordgubbar. Gott om bubblor. Mjuka toner av röda äpplen och med en tydlig brödighet. Drick nu!

Wineberserkers Champagne and Sushi (Ariake, San Francisco): Paler yellow; yeasty, nice complexity; nice acidity on the palate, slightly bitter, lemon-lime; finish is short-medium. Decent, but not superlative, and it lacks character overall. Young, but I don't think it will improve much. I have not been impressed with most of the Launois that I have tried. 88

See previous tasting note from a month ago. Very much the same as last bottle. Went good with oysters, but I want more from my Champagne. Last bottle in the cellar. 88 - 89 p.
