  • Found at the bottom of a friend's cupboard late on during a boozy lunch, we felt this should be opened sooner rather than later. Not expecting much if any life, likely heading for the sink, this was actually a perfectly decent mature claret. Fruit somewhat of a distant memory, this was all about cedar, dust, graphite and a fine and powdery sipping experience. That doesn't sound very nice reading it cold, but this was super silky, smooth, light on its feet and actually very drinkable. If you have any you clearly should have opened it five years ago, but all is definitely not lost.

  • Still a decent core of ruby with a little fade at the rim; a touch of brett alongside cedary autumnal development. Some sweet red fruits also. Herbal notes; classic mature Bordeaux on the palate, quite light but charming all the same. A fading pleasure but that’s the point - still pleasurable.

  • Saved this for my sons 18th birthday as they are of the same vintage. Fantastic nose with pencil, wood and barnyard. Well integrated tannins but a little hollow in the middle, length quite OK. Have aged with dignity but peaked some time ago. Although a very pleasant experience.

  • Floral notes. Nice finish. Tannins softened after decanting. Should have decanted several hours earlier.

  • We got lucky, again. This one, by rights, should have been drunk 4 years ago and at the very latest 2 years ago. Well, we're bozo's and it was in some box somewhere, fuming about non attention. No matter, no grudge. With our, by now predictable Sunday farm chicken dinner with farm potatoes roasted in farm chicken fat (oh call the cardiologist!) this Médoc was wonderful. First impression, peppercorns and baseball leather. Then after a little while my friend Rik pointed out there was a hint of the same flavour you used to get from candy-covered gum-balls, the things that you got out of those cool machines that took a nickel, you turned the handle, and the ball rolled out, usually dropping on the floor. Candy, leather, pepper. A very nice wine, and we are enjoying it slowly this afternoon as we wait for arrivals to the B&B. Can't drink too much yet, still have 2 rooms to fill up with paying guests.
