Monthly Tasting Group HWS: Chateauneuf du Pape vs Gigondas (By me): Beautiful bouquet with blackberries, blueberries, licorice, garrigue and barnyard impressions. On the palate juicy fruits, laurel, beautiful acidity and still slightly sticky tannin. The wine is in its drinking stage with enough power for a few more years of cellaring.

A bit funky on opening and I was a bit worried. After a few hours it opened up and displayed beautiful bouquet and soft dark fruit with fully integrated tannins. Some pleasant sweetness in the finish. Drink up.

The wine is not corked exactly, but it has been hit by the Queensland climate (30 plus and high humidity). So, it is there but just about: pungent smoky nose of dark fruit; on the palate, the flavour is quite rich, dark but with defining acidity. Good and long after taste. Will buy again.

Nicest wine I've had in a very long time. A class above.
