Biarritz. Excellent, as always. Impressive liquorice and subtlety. I think this 2012 was better than the 2010 of a few days back. Maybe it was the Magnum “effect”. A regular go-to affordable treat.

RHONE WINE TASTING & LUNCHEON (The Royal Oak, Paley Street): Appearance: The wine is Clear with a Medium ruby/garnet colour Nose: The nose is Clean and Developing, showing Medium(+) intensity primary aromas of cranberry, red cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry, black/white pepper, some liquorice; secondary aromas of vanilla, cloves and smoke and some tertiary meaty notes. Palate: The wine is Dry in the mouth with a Medium(+) level of acidity. It has Medium(+) soft tannins and a High Level of alcohol (15.00%). It is quite full bodied and has Medium(+) intensity primary flavours of cranberry, red cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry, black/white pepper, some liquorice; secondary flavours of vanilla, cloves and smoke and some tertiary meaty notes. The finish is Medium(+) Overall: Good concentration and quite a long finish, good acidity and soft tannins with quite some complexity Conclusion: It is a Very Good quality wine. Can Drink Now but has Potential for Ageing; Premium priced (£30.00)

Has aged well. Very smooth, tannins have mellowed. Most enjoyable.

Popped and poured. Ripe and juicy, sweet cherries, provence herbes, white pepper. Open and friendly with lots more to offer! Superb.
