A wine that is still far too young, but a delight to drink already. This is a wine that changes both with time in the glass and with food. At first the nose is still tight yielding just a hint of black cherry. The palate is full of black cherries and earthy notes. The tannins are firm, but not overbearing, nice acidity and good balance. This wine turns brighter with food, really far better, everything comes into a precise balance. A bit of anise develops with time in the glass. It is brighter, crisper and deeper with air and time in the glass. The finish is long and very bright. It needs 4 to 5 years to really strut its stuff. My remaining bottles will rest in the cellar until then.

Started off quite tight but blossomed beautifully in the glass. It is full of cherries and berries and has a suggestion of smoked meats and black earth. It is plush and velvety in the mouth with good underlying minerally structure.

Interesting story with this bottle-opened for a shop tasting 4 days ago when it had so much sulfur stink that it was undrinkable even after double decanting. So back into the bottle it went, and it stood up recorked at cellar temperature until today. Ladies and gentlemen, this was a miraculous ugly duckling to swan transformation. Deeper ruby than the other 2 Roy Gevreys poured. Ripe black cherry nose without a trace of off aromas. Incredible cinnamon spice as well. Lusher and more carressing feel with perfect acidity and tannins to balance, terrific length, and soil that creeps in at the very end (hard to push that strong fruit out of the way). I would say this straddles the line between Gevrey Premier Cru and Grand Cru, it is that good. Ordinarily, I would have purchased this on the spot (even at the price), but I was scared off by the back story and the fear that some flaw would re-emerge in the future. Some potential buyers will be braver than I am and could well wind up with a superb bottle.
