  • Excess: A good showing, though not on the level of the last bottle I opened. The fruit here is a bit more understated, and it's very tertiary - dominated by savoury porcini and other mushroom flavours, earthy notes, and some green herbal/leafy accents, with the tart citrus and green apple flavours lingering in the background. Still very fresh though and nicely balanced with good acidity, but not showing the depth or length of my last bottle.

  • Tasting with Salil at my house: Good fill on this one with the label showing its age. The cork came out cleanly and we followed this wine over the next two hours. Stones and minerals were the primary component to this wine with citric acid and hints of white fruit. I'd never had an aged Gruner before. This was a very nice wine.

  • Popped and poured, and followed over a few hours. This is an incredibly compelling and complex wine that seems to be at peak right now. There's tart citrus and gooseberry fruit that's still very fresh, green herbal/verdant accents, and more gentle developed smoky elements, but what really stands out is the vivid stony mineral character that seems to get more intense with air. The palate presence is remarkably light and delicate, and I'm glad I have another bottle.
