Cranberry and clove on the nose. Old world in style, with red fruits and spice on the palate. Good acidity. Full tannins that indicate this wine is still relatively young, with its best years ahead. Well made merlot.
Update - August 26: had a glass of his left over from 5 days ago. Bottle had been Vacu-vined and kept in the fridge. Let wine come up to cellar temp. Mid-palate has filled out significantly and the wine is round and lush. Beautiful fruit and spice. As good as a $25 merlot can be, in my opinion. This will go another 5 years easily. Increasing score to 92.

Supple textures and beautiful fruit make this deep ruby, medium-bodied Merlot a crowd-pleaser. Cassis, black cherry, mineral and anise aromas are followed by similar flavors in a fresh, softly tannic frame. The wine's alcohol (listed as 14.5%) is well-integrated and its oak is judiciously applied. Solid in the middle and medium in length on the back end, this is not only a well-made wine but also represents excellent value. Drink now-2020.

Coffee, chocolate, and black currant aromas lead into similar flavors. Long finish with a hint of spiciness.
