I think one of the oldest pinots I have had. No more fruit is present and we have very much tertiary notes at this point however it still had nice balance and long finish but I think I would have enjoyed this 10 years younger.

A lovely aged burgundy. Surprisingly opulent for a wine of this age. What a pleasure to sit and drink it at the end of a great dinner. A lovely nose, incredibly smooth texture and decent length.

A sweet cedar nose of various baking spices (clove, cinnamon, allspice, etc) with campfire smoke, antique wood, soy sauce, definitive game/blood type aromas that show real thrust and robustness. Tasted blind and showed much younger/backward than ‘78s but then again, it’s a powerful vintage, who knows. A menthol spice character comes along with vinous red cherry still. This is going nowhere fast. BIG WINE. 93-94.

Surprisingly big and less evolved than expected; deep dark, somewhat somber fruit; loads of spices, notably clove, strawberry rhubarb evolves with a meaty soy umami thing going, damp soil. 92+ Others liked it more.

My second bottle of this wine this week. Had first bottle at our wine group dinner and second at dinner last night. Decanted this for one hour. Wine drank very well on both occasions. Earthy bouquet, nice complexity and elegant finish. Fruit however is in decline. I would drink this wine up over the next couple of years.
Drank a second bottle the following night that I decanted for 3 hours and the wine really responded. Fruit was more vibrant and the finish had added length.
