  • Monday Night Blinds (Home (Noe st)): (Blind)
    Appearance:
    - Pale gold, clear, bright, elevated tears
    Aroma:
    - highly terpenic
    - fresh rose petals
    - fresh lychee
    - no botrytis,
    - little bit of rotting lychee
    - slight white pepper, very floral
    Palate:
    - medium plus body
    - significant RS, maybe 15 g/L
    - medium acid
    - moderate phenolic bitterness
    - 13.5% alcohol
    - clean winemaking

High terpenes plus RS leads me to Gewurztraminer from Alsace, basic/AOP level, $25

    Actually: 2013 Alamos Torrontes, 13%

Analysis: RS is not classic for Torrontes and the acid is a bit low, but aromatics are correct - more white peppery/floral like Muscat, compared to more ripe lychee for Gewurz.

  • Nose of grapefruit, light stone fruit, and cucumber. Palate initially with similar fruit flavors, but turns to coriander in the mid-palate. Light acidity and medium-light body.

Very odd wine, especially given the coriander, herbaceous mid-palate into the finish. While this gives it some character, it's an unexpected and odd flavor profile. I'm guessing the "strangeness" that the prior tasting note mentioned was this referring to this. No sulfur on the nose, and still lingered despite air, so I'm guessing it's part of the wine's flavor profile and not specifically a flaw or a sulfur effect.

  • A special wine--clear flavor of perfume, not your basic sauvignon blnc but an added strangeness. Goes well with spicy indian food sort of like a riesling-- then the perfume is less evident.

  • As a big fan of torrontes after having visited Cafayate (in salta) the only place this grape is grown I would not chose Alamos again. Lacking the crispiness and certain flavors usually found in torrontes. Too light.

  • Great fruity flavor. Aromatic or flowery but not oaky. Unique.
